Solar radiation
C4B charts direct normal, diffuse horizontal and global horizontal radiation for the site, with a compass to read the radiation reaching vertical surfaces facing any direction.
PV potential
The yearly PV potential analysis sweeps panel tilt and azimuth to show both the solar radiation received and the electricity produced, and highlights the optimal tilt. Projects on a paid plan add the optimal PV panel orientation to the design direction.
Projects on a paid plan also add PV Energy Potential, which lays real modules on a flat, single-slope, gable or hip roof inside a setback and simulates them hour by hour from the project's weather file, with the row-to-row shading of the spacing built. On flat roofs, optimizers search tilt, orientation and row spacing, and the technical view, on the Technical and Enterprise plans, can run detailed IEC, PVGIS and NREL SAM models with researched or custom modules, the inverter and editable losses.
BIPV Façade Potential, also on paid plans, estimates the electricity that PV integrated in the walls could produce, façade by façade and level by level, from the window-to-wall ratio of each level and façade and the panel typology; its technical view, on the Technical and Enterprise plans, adds exact windows, a verified product or a custom panel per façade and the detailed IEC, PVGIS and NREL SAM models.
Geothermal potential
Ground temperature profiles down to 10 m for the three coldest and three warmest months, from the weather station file's ground temperature data, for a first look at ground-source heat pumps and earth-coupled strategies.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between direct, diffuse and global radiation?
Direct normal radiation comes straight from the sun's disc, diffuse horizontal radiation is scattered by the sky and clouds, and global horizontal radiation is the total reaching a horizontal surface.
How is PV potential calculated?
The yearly PV potential chart uses the open-source pvlib library, with an isotropic-sky model across a sweep of panel tilts and azimuths and a 19% module efficiency, to compare orientations. PV Energy Potential places real modules on the roof and simulates them hour by hour: its base view uses a simplified calculation, which the technical view refines with detailed IEC, PVGIS and NREL SAM models.
Does C4B estimate wind energy potential?
Yes. Wind Energy Potential estimates the annual energy of small wind turbines on a roof or on the ground, as P50 and P90 from the site's weather file, alongside the wind roses C4B uses for comfort and design.
